Russian activist and independent journalist Andrey X Khrzhanovskiy documents the moment Israeli soldiers raided the occupied West Bank town of Tuwani at night. The soldiers were accompanying Israeli settlers to the site of what they claim is an ancient Jewish synagogue. “Why are you storming the village in the middle of the night with guns? And if your argument is that jews are unsafe coming here in any other way, hi, I’m jewish. Jewish safety is a bullshit excuse Israel uses to colonise Palestinian land,” he says in a video published on his X account. The raid comes amid a surge in army and settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank since Israel launched its war on the Gaza Strip. Last week, an Israeli settler shot dead Awdah Hathaleen, an English teacher and activist who was part of the crew of the award-winning documentary ‘No Other Land.’ The Israeli army has withheld the body of Hathaleen since his murder on 28 July.
