Michael Jackson- Interview in Germany, 1999

Michael Jackson once sang, "This is it. Here I stand. I'm the light of the world, I feel grand."

and, suddenly, his light was gone.

The whole world mourned. Many breathed a sigh of sorrow and regret for not loving and appreciating him the way we should have. All that was left, it seemed, was his amazing work and his message- L.O.V.E.

This is one of my favorite interviews with MJ. It took place in Germany in 1999. We've all seen videos of him being surrounded by crowds from the time he was about 10 years old, and he would be rushed into buildings or vehicles to escape the Michael Mania. In this video, we are able to see a different kind of audience and the reaction is unbelievable! There's a frenzy, but it's contained and he's not rushed away.  We're able to see his response to them and it is phenomenal. I believe he really did love and appreciate his fans.

I remember when he was so popular and loved all over the world.  He was, no doubt, one of the most adored people who ever lived. Obviously, no one could prevent it.

I've been part of other groups, MJ fan groups, that work to preserve Michael Jackson's legacy. They are activists.  They are determined and sincere, but they are very different from the fans I've met at JE. It's the love the fans have that is so notable.

He and the Jackson family have just been part of lives- more vicariously than they would ever know. Their music has touched our hearts and souls, leaving permanent impressions in various ways and for various reasons. Because they were celebrities, we kept up with them over the years. We knew everything about their music and entertainment careers, we knew about MJ's pets and Neverland and other details about their lives (many, many good things) that we would never had known, or even cared to know, about other famous people.

I have to admit, the love I've seen for MJ from the fans at JE has had me in laughter and tears since the first day I joined the site. Being at JE makes me miss him so much.  I joined to research his life and what I've found is a piece of his heart.  I will also want to study and defend him, but during the last few weeks, I can't help but open my heart even more and see the love that he wanted the world to know about.

I miss his light. I miss his innocent nature. I am so glad there are videos like this, so that when we miss him, we can watch and remember why we love him so much and why we continue to be fans...

The year is 2020 and Michael Jackson is just as popular, if not more, than he's ever been.
